This past week MAC Budapest opened match play in the Hungarian Cup as they defeated DVTK, 5-1. The ERSTE Liga brought mixed results as they lost to Dunaújváros on home ice but defeated crosstown rivals UTE.
Gergely Majoross gave Bence Bálizs the start in net. DVTK took the early lead in the opening minutes of the game. Brance Orbán tied the game up on shot from the slot, minutes later MAC went up two two goals as Gergő Nagy made it 2-1, with Tamás Pozsgai scoring from the left faceoff circle to make it 3-1. MAC took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission after Tomas Klempa banged one home from the left side of the net. After a scoreless second period Krisztán Nagy scored a fantastic short handed goal to set the final score at 5-1.
Gergely Arany got the start in net in the place of Bence Bálizs. The first two periods were scoreless despite the best efforts from the MAC players as they out shot Dunaújváros in the first two periods 23-14. The opening goal was not scored until the opening minute of the third period as Dunaújváros took a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later the game was all tied up at 1-1, thanks to a score by Tomas Klempa. Dunaújváros scored two goals before the midway point of the period. In the closing minutes of the game Gergő Nagy scored a shorthanded goal to cut the deficit to one goal as MAC was handed their first loss of the season.
Bence Bálizs was back in the net was Gergely Arany was the backup goalie. Jared Brown scored to give MAC a 1-0 lead in the first period. In the opening minute of the second period Keegan Dansereau scored a sneaky goal from behind the net to make it 2-0. Later in the period Scott Mccauley scored on the two man advantage as MAC opened up a 3-0 lead. UTE took advantage of a power play to get back in the game. The score stayed the same all the way until there was under five minutes left in the game. Bronson Kovács scored from just left of the slot with Jesse Dudás ripping a rocket from the blueline as MAC took the game 5-1.
