With the summer coming to a close soon and the hockey season right around the corner it is time to recap what has happened the last few weeks. MAC Budapest will be opening training camp next week with a slew of old and new faces.
On the coaching staff goalie and video coach Jukka Kontsas will be back for his second season with the team, however Bence Svasznek has decided to work with the Hungarian national development program and will be leaving the MAC family.
Staying with the team for another season will be forward Richárd Tóth and Roland Vokla a young defenseman who had a breakout season last year after joining the team from Fehérvár. It was announced earlier that Bence Bálizs is staying with the club, his backstop mate for the third season in a row will be Gergely Arany.
MAC is also dipping into the youth system to strengthen the team as Barna Majoross and Gergely Tóth will be more of a permanent fixture in the lineup after only playing a handful of game the past two seasons. There will be two “old” new faces on the MAC roster, after leaving the youth program to spend three seasons in the U.S. Zsombor Garát is back. He spent the 2016-17 season with the Austin Bruins of the NAHL, he will be expected to be one of the top defenseman for the club. The other familiar face will be Tomas Klempa, after spending one season with Brasov he is back in the Hungarian capital where the coaching staff expects him to continue where he left off in his first season with MAC. Klempa had 76 points in 48 regular season games. With the unfortunate financial situation that Debrecen ended up in young forward Dávid Molnár decided to leave his home town and sign with MAC, Molnár played on the Hungarian U20 and U25 national teams this past year.
Keegan Dansereau made his Hungarian national team debut last season, this offseason he decided to sign with MAC, this will be his fourth season in Hungary. He will be teaming up with Gergely Majoross again, who was his head coach in Miskolc.
Along with Klempa MAC has announced two more import signings in Jared Brown and Scott Macaulay. Brown finished the season in Debrecen last season after playing the first part of the season in Poland. Macaulay had a stellar college career at Northern Michigan which was followed up by couple seasons in the minors where he played in Bakersfield and Tulsa. This will be his third season in Europe, the first two were in the Allsvenskan and in Norway.
Make sure to check back soon as MAC announces their last few imports before the season starts.
